For generations, Adivasi communities have lived and farmed across the hills of Koraput, carrying with them a deep understanding of the forests, soil and seasons around them.

Today, coffee has become part of that landscape too. For many Adivasi farmers, it has created a new source of livelihood while allowing them to continue working with the land they call home.

Before coffee, there was farming.

Susanto Panda grew up helping his father work the land, learning early that farming is less about controlling nature and more about understanding it - its seasons, its soil, and its patience.

Years later, when Susanto looked at the barren hills of Koraput, he carried those lessons with him. What began with the simple act of working the land eventually became Saptagiri Plantation - and the foundation for Dream Hill Coffee.

From The Eastern Ghats

A place with a character of its own.

The Eastern Ghats

Koraput sits within the Eastern Ghats of Odisha, with coffee-growing areas reaching elevations of around 2,000–3,000 feet. The surrounding hills create a cooler growing environment, while the region's regular rainfall supports the cultivation of Arabica. Deomali, Odisha's highest peak at 1,672 metres, rises within the district's mountainous landscape.

Coffee has been part of Koraput's agricultural landscape for decades, gradually becoming one of the region's recognised crops and contributing to the identity of the hills.

The Land

Coffee in Koraput is cultivated within a landscape of forests, shade trees and small agricultural plots. Shade plantations help protect the soil on the region's sloping terrain while creating a cooler microclimate around the coffee plants.

The coffee fields can also support fruits, spices and other crops, allowing the land to remain productive throughout the year and giving farmers additional sources of income.

The People

Koraput is home to a rich diversity of Adivasi communities, with more than half of the district's population belonging to tribal communities such as the Paraja, Gadaba and Kandha.

Agriculture is deeply woven into everyday life and culture here. Coffee has become an important addition to that agricultural landscape, with thousands of tribal farmers now cultivating coffee across the district.

For these farmers, coffee represents not simply a crop, but a long-term relationship with the land and another avenue for building livelihoods within their communities.

The Land

Every coffee begins with its environment. The elevation, rainfall, shade, soil and cultivation practices of a place all become part of the journey from cherry to green bean.

At Dream Hill, that journey begins in the hills of Koraput.

We work with coffees grown in this landscape and roast them with care, allowing the character of each lot and its processing to come through in the final cup.
